An ever so slightly modified version of this video played at the start on the design conference I was at this weekend. So obviously I was inspired right from the first minute, because this video is amazing and hilarious. (especially the “super fast broadband………” bit because it is SO TRUE!) Have a watch and have a laugh.

“New Zealand. Fuck it’s good here!”

(Someone needs to make that line into a FOTC-esque poster please)

Guess which song I’ve had on repeat all night? I just can’t get enough of this chorus, especially the super deliberate breaks, they just make it so catchy.
(And we all know by now how much I love Trade Gothic Bold Condensed, and when I don’t use it in anything for a while I get withdrawal symptoms, so I just had to make this. higher res here)

love the sentiment just as much as I love the design.

OKAY EVERYONE I NEED YOU!
I submitted this design to threadless and it is now up for voting. ages ago I entered a design into the Hallensteins NZ Music month comp and you were all AMAZING and got me to the top of the charts!!! (tho judging ended up having nothing to do with that. gah.)
but on threadless, that DEFINITELY counts, so pretty please, go vote for me by giving me a 5 :) it already has about 1,800 votes and is sitting at a 2.72 atm (which isn’t too bad for first day on Threadless I guess) so GO VOTE IT UP! I know I know it’s annoying that you have to create an account, but I will be forever in your debt if you could do it anyways. Help make my dreams come true :)
Spread this around and vote vote vote! seriously, every single vote counts. and if it gets printed, I will reward every single one of you I promise.
EDIT: Also, tick the “I’d buy it” / “notify me if as a tee” option as they count those too!

This is what I got up to this weekend :) An email invite for Infantesimal. Julia was a great client to work with and just let me have free reign on the design direction. Was super fun to make something adorable.

If anyone from Wellington follows me and needs to get some Christmas presents for younger relatives, you should head along to the opening and score some great deals :)

things that don’t make you a graphic designer (tumblr edition):

viixiimcmlxxxix:

1) typing quotes like “fuck you cunt” in a script typeface.

2) quote in ugly typewriter typeface on top of a dull image of the sky

3) reblogging things you found on FFFFound, Flickr or WeHeartIt

4) making gifs.

5) making shitty graphics for “numbered random things that i appreciate” with white text and pastel colors.

6) putting fucking Helvetica Bold on everything.

7) band lyrics over an image of the band.

8) shitty straight edge lyric in a bold slab-serif typeface with a basement show for the imagery.

9) posting image sets with “artsy” images.

10) merging two pictures together.

11) pictures of clothes. THAT IS NOT FUCKING GRAPHIC DESIGN, THAT IS FASHION… or should i say, “FASHION.”

12) t-shirt mock ups from Zazzle or Cafe Press.

13) using a display typeface on a whole layout.

14) using neon green or pink for text color choices.

offenders - click

designers - feel free to reblog and add your own tumblr-graphic-design related frustations

everyone else - if you haven’t committed any of the following crimes, thank you for making tumblr a more aesthetically please community.

xoxo, design snob.

love this list! and I’d like to add:

15) doing any of the above and posting it with a huge watermark of your name and/or tumblr url (don’t do that. nobody wants to steal your shit anyways)

my second attempt at something with a retro feel. I designed it to tie in with this poster that I made in January. I didnt want it to look exactly the same however so i tried to use fonts that had a slightly different feel.
in case you didn’t click, it’s from a My Chemical Romance song called The Kids From Yesterday. possibly one of my favourite lyrics ever :)
so what do you think?
