Calling all lifers and LNK fans!

Are you heading to a show soon? (Perhaps it’s one of the many shows our favourite band Fall Out Boy is playing?) How would you feel about promoting LNK at that show? And earning yourself free prints and shirts?

Here’s how it will work:

First you fill in this form, and we’ll send you a stack of flyers to hand out to kids at the show. (Take some pictures of people with the flyer you gave them and send us at least 5, and you’ve won your first free print.)

Your stack of flyers will have a discount code on it that is unique to you, and each time someone uses it in the LNK store, you’ll get a free print! (Your pick of these)

PLUS when your code is used 10 times, you’ll also get a free shirt! Your pick of any in the store. (and if your code is used 20 times, you’ll get two free shirts. and so on and so on)

We’re looking for people who truly believe in LNK to spread the word to other people you think might like it. Given the inspiration behind many of the designs, Fall Out Boy shows will be full of future LNK fans! Homemade chewy muesli bars

Dissatisfied with the muesli bars on offer at the supermarket, I decided to try make my own this weekend, and I have to say, I don’t think I’ll ever buy pre-made muesli bars again. I love knowing what goes into my food, so i can snack guilt-free! (and I snack a LOT) This recipe is one I made up by taking bits from a bunch of different recipes I found online. Give it a try! It could obviously be made healthier by cutting down on the amount of dried fruit, and leaving out the chocolate… but I like to have a muesli bar as an afternoon pick-me-up when I’m craving something sweet so this works for me. I also really wanted to include chia seeds, but my budget didn’t allow… perhaps after payday! ;)

Ingredients:

3 1/2 cups wholegrain oats
3/4 cup chopped almonds
2 tbsp oat bran
1 tbsp sesame seeds
1 tbsp linseed
1 cup chopped dried fruit (I used apricots and berries)
2 bananas (mashed)
2/3 cup homemade applesauce
1 tbsp honey
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp salt
4 squares of dark chocolate (at least 70% cocoa), chopped into small pieces

Method:

1. Set oven to 180C
2. Put oats and almonds onto a lined baking tray and toast for around 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
3. Meanwhile, combine applesauce, honey and mashed banana in a medium bowl
4. Put toasted oats and almonds into a large bowl and mix with dried fruit, sesame seeds, linseed, oat bran, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt.
5. Pour the banana/applesauce/honey mix on top and mix until combined.
6. Transfer mixture into a baking dish lined with baking paper and press down firmly.
7. Bake for around 20 minutes or until golden
8. Lift onto a wire rack and leave to cool, then chop into bars and wrap for a healthy snack!

My little DIY project this week!

I got this set of drawers for only $20 just over a year ago and was happy to discover they were in pretty good condition (after I gave them a thorough clean!) but of course no amount of cleaning could change the dirty cream colour… A few weeks ago I saw these ombré drawers on Pinterest and was inspired to do something similar! This is my result and I’m pretty darn happy with it. :)

EDIT: because someone asked: I painted the chest with white gloss enamel, and painted the drawers with 4 different Dulux test pots.

May I present a little project I’ve been working on on-and-off for the past few months. This is a fun little “annual report” motion type piece that looks at the music I listened to in 2012.

It’s been a while since I made a video, and there’s lots that I’d do differently if I did it again. But that’s what personal projects are for right! For learning :)

Thoughts on: Save Rock & Roll

You may have seen that yesterday an anon asked me to write a review of Save Rock & Roll, so here goes.

As a diehard, until now every single FOB album has meant a lot to me. I can still remember the moment I bought & heard them. And I can still remember what it felt like to listen to them for the first time. It was love at first listen. And as cheesy as it is, they truly made my life better. They made me feel alive. They made me feel happy. And to this day, a bad mood can still be fixed by playing them.

Sadly, I can’t say the same for Save Rock & Roll.

If, in the future, I look back and can remember when I first heard it, I’ll be remembering excitement, a slight sense of confusion and a vague feeling of disappointment when it ended. On first listen there were lots of songs I liked, one or two I loved, and a couple I didn’t care for one bit. As I’ve listened to the album non-stop the past few days they’ve mostly all grown on me, but I’m sad I didn’t fall head over heels in love with them instantly like with every other FOB release.

The main annoyance for me is how most of the songs sound so much like other songs and other bands. By now we’re all used to FOB reinventing themselves with each new album, and I know bands take influence from other bands, but this just feels messy. On first listen to most songs I found myself picking out which other song this bit sounded like, which is obviously not what should be happening. The other annoyance is that this doesn’t feel like an album. Ironically, my iTunes preorder downloaded as a playlist. And that’s exactly what this is. A collection of songs that may or may not be by the same band. A great album for me has flow. It tells a story. To be fair, The Phoenix is a clear starting song, and the title track is a brilliant closer, but the middle is just a jumble of random songs of various genres that don’t flow together very well. I’m hoping the videos will make some sense of this for me. But I’m sad that’s what’s needed.

With that said, now that I’m over my initial disappointment, I do like this album. I think. You may have seen me say on Twitter a few days ago that I could easily never hear any of these songs again, and be absolutely fine with that. But they’ve grown on me, and some of them are damn catchy. So, it’s not a good album. But it does have a lot of good songs. I guess I should have written this a few days ago when I felt much more strongly about it. But I think I’ve gotten over it now and have accepted that FOB will never be the FOB I fell in love with again, so I’m just trying to enjoy these songs for the fun little pop songs that they are. I guess I’m just lucky that I’m in a stage of my life now where I’m pretty bloody happy and don’t need to rely on music for my therapy anymore.

Patricks parts in Rat A Tat (I do not care for the Courtney Love parts at all)
Save Rock & Roll (especially the sampling of Chicago Is So Two Years Ago)
